Pictured against the icy blue waters of Kachemak Bay along the southern Alaskan coast, this Bald Eagle glides with majestic grace to catch fish just below the water’s surface with its powerful talons. Equipped with a wingspan as wide as 8 feet and extraordinary eyesight, eagles can hunt with amazing precision in vast expanses of ocean tides. Their ability to maneuver through the air, target prey from a considerable distance, and land precisely on a narrow perch, are all impressive examples of their aeronautical skills. Watching these adventures in the skies, humans have, over the centuries, found inspiration, symbolism, spiritual association, and even the origins of innovation. Our Forefathers prudently chose a symbol for our nation with enduring character of which we can all be proud.
